True love can put two different characteristics and families together, because the differences make them stronger in their commitment to live together and to devote themselves to God. Here’s the proof of love: In Anissa’s large house full of love, suddenly felt so crowded because of many guests coming. They’re excited to see a Javanese traditional marriage by a Padangnese family, just like ‘Bhineka Tunggal Ika, meski berbeda tetapi tetap satu jua…’ (Indonesian motto: though we’re various, but still we’re one nation) khakhakha…. Congratz for Anissa’s big family. Although Anissa’s big family has a “rancak banak” Padangnese background, love has made them joyfully hold the Javanese traditional ceremony: “siraman”. “Siraman” comes from the word ‘siram’, meaning to take a bath, is done one day before marriage. Bride and groom is sanctified by being bathed in each parents’ house. It’s called ‘siraman’.
Padangnese culture is strong in Anissa’s big family, but it ain’t stop them to change the house decoration into Javanese nuance. Preparation of ‘siraman’ in Annisa’s houseyard was perfect! Some of the stuff used, like water container, water dipper, chairs, flowers, towels, cloth, kendi (earthenware flask) were arranged sweetly. During the ceremony, Anissa’s parents acted so smooth, as if they’re really from Java. Great, uncle and aunty! The funny thing is after that, there’s “Jual Dawet” (selling a traditional Javanese drink). This tradition is taken from the round cendol (small doughy rice-flour droplets) symbolizing parents’ matchmaking their child. The buyer should pay by ’kreweng’ (pieces of roof-tile), not money, to show that a man’s life is from the earth. It teaches bride and groom about how they have to help each other to earn a living as husband and wife. Anissa’s mom served the buyer and Anissa’s dad got the payment. Hahahaha…. They looked smiling, trying to hold their laugh, but they’re so happy. Anissa really enjoyed each step of this ‘siraman’. Smile never went away from her lips. She also enjoyed “potong rikmo” (cutting hair). Even she couldn’t stand laughing when she’d got to be carried by her dad. Everyone coming laughed happily too. Everyone was happy at that time. It’s the power of love and happiness given not only by two people in love, but also the euphoria made all around them filled with joy and love too…
